Our Journey
Alinea’s history from its beginnings to the 21st century.
The roots of what is now Alinea stretch back to the latter days of the Second World War, when the Civilian Maimed and Limbless Association of Western Australia was established.
Several years later, the Paraplegic-Quadriplegic Association of WA was set up. These two forerunner organisations would both grow and develop in parallel and from the late 1970s they were jointly administered.
In 2012, they formally merged to form the Spine and Limb Foundation, whose name was changed to Alinea in 2019.
TIMELINE
Discussions on a project to present the history of Alinea began in 2022. It was decided to proceed with a visual timeline to detail the various developments that have occurred during the history of the organisation.
Partnering with The Factory, a Perth-based agency specialising in signage and displays, the project eventually took shape as a physical display located in the Administration area of Alinea’s Shenton Park corporate office.
As our Executive Director, Shane Yensch (recorded in September 2024), relates, the location is immediately outside our main Training room, where staff receive regular training throughout the year. Accordingly, staff could easily access the timeline and more fully understand the story they have become a part of.
As the project unfolded, it became apparent that a web version of the timeline was also warranted so as to allow the wider community easy access to the information.
